June 23, 2001 (Southwestern Int'l Raceway): 16 CIFCA funny cars braved the desert heat for the second stop on the 2001 schedule. This is a season of heroes to zeros for members of the California Independent Funny Car Association. Previous race winners are first round victims, and vise versa. This lack of dominance is producing great racing for the fans.

Jim Carter of Glendale, AZ qualified on the pole with a 7.54 and had one of his best outings. He finished the day a semi-finalist. In the final round, Steve Tryon of Phoenix, AZ paired off against Ross Stickler. Tryon had been on his game cutting great lights and posting consistent elapsed times in his Bad Company Corvette. Both cars ran identical break-out elapsed times (7.380) which was a first ever for CIFCA. The winner was determined based on who got to the stripe first. In this case it was Tryon by .007 seconds (.456 - .463 light.).

Mike Halstead won the Perma-Cool Burnout Challenge while Paul Miller .401 light was good for the Enderle Quick Reaction Time bucks. Sean Dale leads the tight points chase for the first time in his career.
