Matt Sullivan Wins Funny Car at US 36

After towing through torrential downpours, four Midwest Funny Car Association teams arrived at Mike Frank’s US 36 Raceway in Osborn, MO. to be greeted by sunny skies. Mike worked feverously to get the 1/8TH mile facility into shape after steady rain, high temperatures and high humidity.

Attending were Matt Sullivan with his KB powered “Sheer Craziness Too” Pontiac. Mike and Shelly Newkirk had their beautiful “Girl Watcher” Daytona on the grounds along with Mike Boisvert in the former Blue Max Mustang, now aptly named “Sheer Hell”. Kevin and Denise Smith towed in their new “Yellow” KB powered Olds Cutlass and had Randy Jens at the controls.

After two rounds of action the quickest cars came back for the final. Matt Sullivan and Mike Newkirk were ready to do battle. Sullivan and Newkirk laid down side-by-side full track burnouts and the crowd knew this one was going to be good. Sullivan had the tricky US 36 surface figured out and went strait and true for a 4.976 win over Newkirk who lost traction for a 5.376.
