Good Vibrations Overcome Shakey Situation

Race Report

Submitted by: Jim Maher

August 25, 2001 (Western Colorado Raceway): The CIFCA funny cars returned to Grand Junction, CO and were greeted by enthusiastic race fans. The staff at Western Colorado Raceway worked hard all year making improvements which helped produced a great show.

The thin 9000' air didn't deter the teams from running the number. Chill Scardino of Phoenix, AZ recorded a perfect 7.500 off the trailer for the top spot. He was followed very closely by Broome/Savage (7.501).

Sean & Gary Dale are having some great success with their Shakey Situation. They found themselves in their 2nd final round of the year. In the opening frame, Dale held back an out-of-shape Steve Tryon. During the semis, they beat Scardino to the stripe by a mere .010 seconds.

Making waves on the other side of the 8-car ladder was Jim Maher's Good Vibrations. Maher barely got around Savage with .005 seconds to spare in the opening round. His .412 light earned him the Enderle Quick Reaction Time bucks. He then sent the DLS Motorsports to an early BBQ during the semi-finals.

These two hemi powered Camaros paired off for the final round just before midnight. Both drivers did some serious driving with Maher taking the win light (7.59 - 7.70).

Special thanks to Doug & Teri Styers and the entire WCDRA staff for their hard work. They are making sure Western Colorado Raceway is a dragstrip racers and fans can be mighty proud of.
